Help Phone Lines - Very important for clinical psychology applications

Kids Help Phone

  • Work remotely to respond to texts from people who are in crisis

  • Help people identify what they are feeling and discuss coping strategies and supports

  • 36 hour training program to help you best serve the people who are using the service

  • Commit to volunteering 4 hours per week for at least 1 year

  • Supported in your role by supervisors

  • Mostly looking for overnight support

Anova Crisis Line

  • Provide support to crisis line callers

  • Require 42 hours of training on gender based violence, trauma response, suicide intervention and more

  • Commit to 12 hours per month

  • 3 hour shifts during the day

  • Many volunteer opportunities to make a difference in people’s mental health

  • Clinical program - gain front line experience, interacting with people face-to-face in a wide range of settings

  • Research volunteer program- assist in gathering information necessary for research projects. Require knowledge of research methodology, SPSS experience, and some prior research experience

CMHA Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services

  • Supporting mental health in London Ontario to impact lives and quality of life of individuals in the community

  • Have a mindset of “it doesn’t matter how much or how little time you have to offer. All that matters is that you have the desire to get involved”

  • Complete a virtual application form and attach updated resume

  • Agree to minimum commitment of 6 months

    • Events Helper- represent organization at information table during events and helping with other event related tasks such as providing golf tournament support, assisting in taking admission fees/ donations, setting up, general administrative tasks, etc. 

    • Basement and Site Organizer Volunteer (London Coffee House)- general maintenance of storage site, sort and organize donations, maintain cleanliness of storage areas, assist in assembling harm reduction kits, etc.

    • Kitchen Helper (London Coffee House)- assist with preparation of food and beverages, wash dishes, ensure cleanliness, etc. 

    • Supportive Listening Line- provide supportive listening, brief support, and information to callers, maintain accurate data collection, access and triage calls when needed.

London Public Library

  • Great way to get involved in the community and meet people from your neighbourhood

  • Great experience working with kids 

  • Currently recruiting for literacy programs: READ & English Language Mentors

    • READ

      • One on one help with a child to help them discover the joy and confidence of reading

      • One hour per week time commitment

      • Play board games, try new crafts and experiments, tell jokes, write stories, and read

    • English Language Mentor

      • Provide one-on-one support and encouragement to adults learning English

      • Emphasis on social conversation 

      • Volunteers have found this very rewarding and many new friendships have been made by participants!

London Food Bank

  • Join volunteer mailing list on website to learn more about volunteer opportunities available for that week

  • General Help

    • Perform general work in the warehouse

    • Making hampers, sorting donations, and other duties as needed

    • Take place during weekday operating hours

  • Helping in the Garden

    • Vegetable and fruit garden where fresh produce is grown for clients

    • All are welcome to help out

  • Saturday Mornings

    • Join on Saturday mornings to perform general duties in the warehouse

    • Perfect for those who are unavailable during the week
